Oak Shade Farm lies in northern Culpeper County and consists of 23 rolling acres with commanding views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At the farm, the rhythms of the seasons measure out the year... from the first plantings of the gardens and trees in the spring, to the harvests and jam making of summer and fall, to greeting Christmas tree customers and friends in the winter.

At Oak Shade, everything is organic, including the Christmas trees. No herbicides, pesticides or commercial fertilizers are used on trees or crops. Their produce, honey, and jams are sold at the farmers’ market. Weaving and beautiful hooked rugs are made at Oak Shade, and Christmas trees are sold beginning the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas. They invite you visit the farm, where hillsides are planted with pines and spruces, shiitake mushrooms are grown, and bees are kept.

Directions from Culpeper - Take route 229 through Rixeyville. Cross the Hazel River Bridge, then take the first left onto route 611 (Waterford Rd.) Our drive is 1 mile along rt 611. Look for a brown house on the right and our green tree sign. Come up the hill to our barn and parking area.

Directions from Points North - Take 211W about 8 miles to the yellow flashing light at intersection of rt 211 and rt 229. Go left on rt 229 for 6 miles to rt. 611 (Waterford Road). Go right on Rt. 611 for one mile. Look for a brown house on the right & green tree sign. Come up the hill to our barn & parking area.

Site Activity: Blacksmithing, weaving, rug hooking demonstrations. Discussion of Christmas tree production, organic farming, shiitake mushrooms, beekeeping, fruit trees and jam making. There is a self-directed native plant pathway through the woods with identification of plants. Honey, beeswax candles, jams, weavings, rugs and ironwork will be available for purchase as well as mushrooms, if in season.
