Sunday ONLY
Begun in the Spring of 1999 by Rob Ferguson and Mike Sipes,
Cibola Farms’ name reflects the regional history of early Spanish
explorers who called native buffalo “Cibola”. The farm’s Buffalo
Hunter Meats are marketed directly to restaurants, retail outlets,
and consumers at farmers’ markets and the farm’s trading post.
Cibola Farms raises quality natural meats under the principles of
ecological and sustainable agriculture by keeping waste out of the
Chesapeake Bay watershed. Livestock is continually rotated across
pastures to allow for composting and effective distribution of all
waste nutrients. The farm takes pride in the humane treatment of
its livestock in a natural, low-stress environment.
Although Cibola’s centerpiece is the thriving, visually impressive
buffalo herd, they also employ the concept of multi-species grazing
by using meat goats to clear brush, pasteurized pigs to provide
natural tilling and poultry to help control parasites while fertilizing
paddocks. See the eggmobile, chicken and turkey day range, rabbit
huts, goatmobile, and the rotational grazing system in operation.
