Ashland Farms, Inc., a family dairy run by third generation
Culpeper natives, offers a chance to see where food staples such as
milk, ice cream, cheese, yogurt and other delicious dairy products
come from. The farm raises Holstein cattle from calves to milking
cows. These beautiful black and white animals can weigh 1,500
pounds when mature and produce the most milk on average of any
dairy cow breed. In one day, a typical mature cow can produce
over 12 gallons of milk and can eat over 100 pounds of feed!
It is fortunate, then, that in addition to its milking operation,
Ashland Farms grows and sells hay and straw in both square and
round bales. Visit the grain silo and silage facility where food for
the dairy herd in stored.
